Why 'the Retorta experience'?

A retort is a glassware device used for distillation in a laboratory and a house in the Portuguese country. What’s the connection?

Well, 'experiência' in Portuguese means 'experiment' in English and for any experiment you need a retorta - and I found one!

No electricity - No go!

Everything's at a standstill at the moment.
Since July I've been waiting for EDP - Portugal's national state electricity supplier - to give me a quote to connect the Mill House to the grid and, guess what, I still haven't received one!
I've had a great deal of support from local dignatories, including the Deputy Mayor, to 'persuade' EDP to give me a quote and eventually this week I've been told how much.
No official quote and even when I get it and accept it I'm sure that it'll be a few weeks before they do the necessary work.
In the meantime my builder can do no more work and it has to stop.
More news later.....

Second floor up!

The second floor is now up with the ceiling now ready. Might not look like much but its a real achievement as structurally it means that the building is now taking real shape

Part of the team

This is Eduardo Silva, the Project Manager who is responsible for overseeing the building and its progress. Hopefully he'll be able to ensure that its finished on time.

The first floor is in!

It starts to look like a real house - there's a long way to go but its positive progress and it's exciting to see the shape that the house is starting to take.
